Celebrations for International Women's Day came to an official close on Sunday March 28, 2010 during a Cookout which was hosted bythe MInistry of Communit yDevelopment, Culture and Gender Affairs. The event took place at Mission Beach Toco, where staff of the MInistry joined various communities from Toco and environs to participate in a day filled with fun for the entire family.

Sixteen groups participated for the title of Best Tasting Dish as they presented their meals, accompanied by decor, delicious dessert choices, including East Indian and African delicacies, and superb customer service when they served their dishes to patronizing members of the public. The unseasonably warm weather had been a welcome start to the spring lacrosse season. Sunny afternoons meant short sleeves and no jacket were in order.

The only chill in the air came from the occasional breeze as the games played into the late afternoon.

For DeMatha lacrosse moms Cindy Travers, left, and Dixie Poe, center, the weather was a short-lived break from the usual cold start to the season.

It was appreciated, but they knew it wouldn't last for long. "When we start the season it's freezing cold and when we end the season it's burning hot, " said Poe, whose son, Phil Poe, is a senior midfielder.

Caritas Pakistan Lahore organized a seminar on women’s day on March 8, 2010 at Trindade Hall organized in collaboration with Caritas Pakistan National Secretariat. Theme of the seminar was “Equal rights, Equal opportunities and progress for all”. Program started with the prayer by Ms Saima Francis.  Rev Fr. Inayat Bernard (Diocesan Executive Secretary of Caritas Pakistan Lahore) welcomed all the participants, in his massage he said if we use our abilities to splendid the other people’s abilities then it will result in a positive way.

Ms Anila Jacolin Gill (National Executive Secretary of Caritas Pakistan, explained the objectives of the program. Mr. Amir Irfan( Head Red Department and National Coordinator for Livelihood program) elaborated the background of international women’s day and said that first time this day was celebrate on March 8, 1913 . He also highlighted the 12 years old Shahzia case that the injustices are going on till date.

How many people know that International Women's Day was first observed in the United States? Everyone in Europe knows that March 8th is an official holiday celebrated as International Women's Day however; only few people in North America are familiar with this unique day. The woman is the most important being in the world - mother and daughter - elements without which the whole universe would not exist. Where was International Woman's Day (IWD) born? How is it celebrated and what it signifies internationally?
 
Marked as a major day of global celebration, International Women's Day acknowledges the economic, political and social achievements of women. Some countries around the world celebrate both International Women's Day and Mother's Day on March 8th.
