Waas Black Friday Green?

December 21, 2009 |11:23 | Black Friday  By : Team X

It's interesting how names a phrases enter into our language pool. We know that we cannot go any further than that our words or language takes us. The first Black Friday occurred on September 24, 1869, but that's not how the term is used these days. In 2008, Black Friday has acquired the name because it is historically the sales-packed day when retailers would become profitable for the year. Some businesses suffer all year to get to the Black Friday kick off.

The nation's retailers got a much-needed sales boost during Black Friday's traditional shopathon as consumers, lured by deep discounts, spent nearly 3 percent more than they did last year. Sales on the day after Thanksgiving rose to $10.6 billion, according to preliminary figures released Saturday by ShopperTrak RCT Corp., a Chicago-based research firm that tracks sales at more than 50,000 retail outlets.

Christmas Day!

December 19, 2009 |11:48 | Christmas Day  By : Team X

In a history that spans centuries, Christmas dwarfs all other holidays. Groundhog Day? Get real. Arbour Day? Forget about it. Thanksgiving? Maybe if there's a free iPod under that turkey. Originally set aside on the calendar for sun-worshipin' and solsticin', December 25 would have been just another unremarkable day near the end of the year, but Christianity saw the day's potential. Christmas went from an obscure blip on the calendar to the biggest holiday of all time. Like many critically lauded holidays, Christmas was originally much more popular in Europe. After crossing the pond, the holiday was met head-on by critics and purists in the American scene, namely the Puritans.

They called Christmas “a popish festival with no biblical justification.” While its authenticity might have fallen into question, the holiday's charismatic frontman, Saint Nicholas of Myre operating under the stage name Santa Claus and his backup crew of elves and reindeer topped the holiday charts. Charges that the feast has lost its roots and gone overly commercial have been levied in recent decades, but every year millions flock to catch Santa's one night world tour. Whether or not you’re a fan, you have to respect Christmas’s resilience.

Teacher’s day is celebrated every year on the 5th September in India.

It is a dedication to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan who was the President of India.

He was basically a dedicated teacher and a believer in education.

The birthday of this great scholar is been observed as Teacher’s day.

Since I was a teacher, I received SMS, e-mails and greeting cards from my students who are now teachers too.

December 15, 2009 |10:32 | Women's day  By : Team X

Recession effects many women around the world right now. Not only United States are effected by the recession, but all people and women around the world.
What is women's role in the recession?
Women are effected mostly by recession, because women are mothers, women are supporters. There are more women who have to take care of many children than there are men. Of course there are many responsible men out there, but women are great caregivers. Marriages survive only about 50% and single mothers have it even harder. This is why today I would like to focus on women in the recession.

Jobs
When a woman looses a job it can be devastating for her and her family. Most women have to shop and enjoy shopping but when economy is in a recession it can difficult times for mothers or wife or single women. If you are married you could still rely on your husband, but women without husband, or family have the hardest times. If you are a woman in a recession, asses your situation and get the best out of your circumstances that you can get.

Nobel Prize Day Comes For Hopkins' Greider

December 11, 2009 |11:43 | Others  By : Team X

Today's the big day for Carol Greider, the Johns Hopkins molecular biologist who won a share of this year's prize for physiology or medicine. Actually, that's a bit unfair. It's been a big week. Concerts, receptions, dinners, TV appearances. But today she actually receives the medal.

Last night's reception at the Nordic Museum was fairly typical. Lots of Champagne, canapes, and a harpist playing classical music. One of the most amusing things to watch is the cloud of students, wearing unusually formal clothes for them, that forms around Carol.

A Pandemic Known as Christmas

December 10, 2009 |12:29 | Christmas Day  By : Team X

SHARING is something that has been one of the many other ways that we show love and affection, especially during Christmas. Regardless of whatever in excess of what we would want to share, the act of "sharing" no longer comes as a surprise to us, inasmuch as the practice in itself has evolved into an expression of how one feels towards another.

From the concept of "extending anything in excess of whatever we may want to share comes the idea of "offering something which doesn't form part what we have", which to laymen has very little distinction with that of the former.

What's in a Box?

Commonly called as a gift, the offering is an expression of giving oneself to another, inasmuch as that of whatever is extended to another connotes sharing of oneself to one or more of his likeness.

Teachers Day - Salutations From A Grateful Student

December 4, 2009 |11:42 | Teachers Day  By : Team X

A bud is born. It blooms into a flower, petals spread out and the fragrance mesmerizes everyone. A flower is no different from a student who grows, matures and finally evolves into a new human being after coming into contact with a teacher. Teachers are people to whom we owe our knowledge and so, to a large extent, our livelihood. Teachers teach not with the idea of completing the coursework; they teach with the goal of imparting knowledge, inspiring us to want to learn new things, formulate theories, and innovate. Therein lay the difference between a good teacher and a great one.

A syllabus is a framework which limits the horizons of knowledge. A teacher does not seek to break that; he aims to transcend that. Teachers Day is when we salute such teachers and extend our gratitude to them. They have been the greatest source of inspiration for us all and no way is fitting enough to fully encompass what we feel. However, just like in our school and college we could never submit a perfect work and yet the teacher exhorted us to do better the next time. We can do our best, even if we fall short of the high standards teachers have set for us. They were, are and will always be happy when they see their students happy.
