The Story of Fathers Day

November 25, 2009 |16:48 | Father's Day  By : Team X

The story of Father’s Day is an interesting one. Some say it is little more than a fake holiday, designed by card shops to fill a summer lull in holidays and separate punters from their cash, but that couldn’t be further from the truth (it’s also not true for Valentine’s Day, the holiday most commonly accused of this look it up).

Father’s Day got its start in 1909 Washington, when Sonora Smart Dodd was listening to a sermon about Mother’s Day, which had just been created two years ago. Mother’s Day was started by a woman named Anna Jarvis, because she wanted to honour her own mother, and she quickly found official support to get it made into a holiday. Sonora, however, had no mother her father was a single parent who raised her and five other children single-handedly. She thought fathers should have a day too, and the story of Mother’s Day inspired her to try to start one.

What Should I Get Mom For Mother's Day?

November 18, 2009 |17:45 | Mother's Day  By : Team X

I remember when I was a little boy in school; we would make our mom’s a silly little art project for Mother’s day. You know, a baby food jar with construction paper on it and a tissue paper flower. Now, don’t get me wrong, I am sure mom loved that little home made gift. And most mothers probably still have those little papered jars stored away in a box somewhere so they can pull them out and remember when we were young. Although, as we get older we realize that our gift was not really practical. We start to think maybe I should get mom something better. Something she can use regularly, but more importantly, something she really needs.

If you are like me, your mother is probably at the age where she can order off the senior’s menu. With the special discounts on food also come other more undesirable aspects related to age. The weather no longer seems as warm as it used to. Her feet get colder easier; the extra thick comforters come out of the closet while it is still summertime, and all sleepwear is either flannel or fleece. As we get older our roles start to reverse with our parents.

Father's Day

November 17, 2009 |17:58 | Father's Day  By : Team X

Why do we have a Father’s Day? What’s the point? When was it first celebrated? Are gifts given? What about personalised gifts?  We hope to answer some of those questions here We don’t have to go back very far to find out the origin of fathers day or the giving of fathers Day gifts. Unlike a lot of other annual events that we celebrate, Fathers Day does not go back thousands of years; it does not have any links to Gods or deities. No, it started in a small town in America (where else!!!!!!) called Spokane in Washington. Here a woman by the name of Sonara Smart was stimulated by a Mother’s Day address she was listening to.

This was at only the turn of the twentieth century and so we don’t go back too far. Never-the-less, Sonara thought it would be a good idea to celebrate a day for her father who was called William Jackson Smart. Why? Well William had brought up his family single handedly after the death of his wife and Sonara decided to celebrate this in the form of a “Father’s Day”. Sonara celebrated her first Father’s Day on 19 June 1910 which was his birthday and it is certain he would have received an extra special gift. This would have been a very personalised gift and the start of many more Fathers Day gifts.

Mother s Day, Not Nearly Enough Time, Just One Day For Mothers

November 14, 2009 |14:42 | Mother's Day  By : Team X

Many take both Mother, and Mother’s Day for granted. We all have, as children growing up. Mother’s Day is more than just a Sunday to send flowers to Mom. Mother’s Day is a memorial that serves as just a fleeting moment of the year to show honor and due reverence to one we love so dear. It’s only one day, and not nearly enough. Being a full-time mother is one of the highest salaried jobs in my field, since the payment is pure love.Mildred B. Vermont

Eight of her twelve children had been baptized in tears of grief. For Ana Maria Jarvis the Civil War was far from civil. It didn’t seem fair that a mother should outlive so many children, yet she did. In doing so, Ana left a legacy that was adopted and championed by an unmarried daughter who shared her mother’s name.

Creative Ways To Celebrate Mother's Day With Flowers

November 12, 2009 |13:25 | Mother's Day  By : Team X

Moms are amazing people. They selflessly care for their children making sure there are always clean clothes to wear, a delicious dinner on the table, and plenty of love to go around. They often put their families ahead of themselves expecting only a quick hug or a smile as a reward. That's why celebrations honoring mothers have been occurring since the times of the ancient Greeks, and perhaps even before. The first official Mother's Day in the United States was on May 9, 1914 when President Woodrow Wilson declared the second Sunday in May to be National Mother's Day, a day on which mothers throughout the country should be recognized for all they do.

Black Friday Shopping - Making Thousands From One Day

November 11, 2009 |17:22 | Black Friday  By : Team X

Black Friday is a goldmine for eBay resellers. On one single day there are more profitable items for sale than during the entire rest of the year. If executed properly, Black Friday can easily create thousands of dollars in profit. This article explains in detail how to find and buy deals on Black Friday and then how to sell them on eBay for a profit. Preparing for Black Friday In order to make the best purchases on Black Friday, it is necessary to start by gathering some supplies. Initially you will need the following:

The first requirement is fairly self-explanatory, but keep in mind that the more money you can spend the more you can make. Don't go out and spend $10,000 on your first trip though, as that is a lot to loose if you mess up. Prepare yourself to spend a set amount of money before leaving, that way you will know exactly what you are getting into. The second requirement is actually more important than it sounds. My friend and I went on our first Black Friday trip over four years ago, and boy were we under prepared.

A Father's Day Experience

November 6, 2009 |14:52 | Father's Day  By : Team X

One man's story of why Father's Day is especially meaningful to him. When I was a kid, Father’s Day was always something that was sort of an afterthought. We’d always do some silly little craft at the direction of our teacher, and then help Mom choose a tie or a mug or other cliché gift. Dad would always exclaim over how fun/wonderful/surprising it was, and then we’d grill out for dinner. I never expected to celebrate Father’s Day myself. At 39, I had no “paternal urge” and was quite a committed bachelor. I enjoyed a high-profile lifestyle in New York City, dating mostly twenty-something coeds and society girls. And then I met Cathy.

Cathy was like no one I had ever met before. I was on my way to a meeting and was probably giving less attention to the other people on the sidewalk than I was my cell phone conversation. She was on the way to court for a meeting of her own. We literally ran into each other on the sidewalk, sending our briefcases and her chocolate mocha coffee flying everywhere. I know, I know, completely something out of a bad romance novel. But it really happened. In our rush to gather up our own papers, I somehow ended up with her day planner. So I called her to schedule a time to give her back her day planner, and the rest, as they say, is history.
