Mothers Day Gifts

October 28, 2009 |19:06 | Mother's Day  By : Team X

Mothers Day is on the second Sunday of May. For 2009, Mother’s Day will be on May 10th. This article informs the origin of Mother’s Day, and provides some suggestions for selecting the perfect gift for mom. Mothers Day in the United States was proposed by Anna M. Jarvis (1864-1948). Her mother, Mrs. Anna Reese Jarvis was a minister’s daughter and taught Sunday School for 20 years in the Andrews Methodist Church of Grafton, West Virginia.

The younger Anna Jarvis was only twelve years old when she listened to her mother’s wish during a Sunday school lesson on mothers in the Bible, that one day someone would found a memorial mother’s day. There were many days of observance for men, but none for women. Two years after Anna Reese Jarvis died in May of 1905, Anna Jarvis and her friends began a letter-writing campaign to gain support in declaring a national Mother’s Day holiday. She felt children often neglected to appreciate their mother while the mother was still alive. She hoped Mother’s Day would increase respect for parents and strengthen family bonds. On May 8, 1914, the Congress designated the second Sunday in May as Mothers Day. President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed Mothers Day as an official national holiday.

What Happens On Christmas Day

October 24, 2009 |12:27 | Christmas Day  By : Team X

The Christmas season and all its activities are geared to the big day, Dec. 25, which is Christmas Day. The word Christmas is derived from Middle English 'Christemasse' and Old English 'Cristes maesse,' both of which means 'Christ's Mass.' The day is celebrated by Christians as the day that Jesus Christ was born, although the true date of Jesus' birth isn't really known.

Given the religious significance of Christmas Day, it therefore follows that attending church is a big tradition on that day. It is seen as mandatory for devout Christians and for others who are concerned about retaining the sacred meaning of the day. Many people fear that the sacred aspects of Christmas are being lost and overshadowed amid the bustle of commercial activity now associated with the entire season.

Teachers Day

October 23, 2009 |12:13 | Teachers Day  By : Team X

In India teacher day (also called Teachers' Appreciation Day or National Teacher's Day) is celebrated on 5th of September every year. Teachers Day is a dedication to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was a staunch believer of education and was one of the most well known diplomat, scholar, president of India and above all a teacher. As a tribute to this great teacher, his birthday has been observed as teachers' day and this led to its origin. This day is just a mere reflection of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan's love for and attachment to the teaching profession. As a matter of fact Dr. Radhakrishnan himself asked his admirers to celebrate his birthday not as his birthday but as the teacher's day. Teachers day is dedicated to the hard work that is input by the teacher all year long, a day that is a complete tribute to the teachers all around India.

Office Max Black Friday Ad 2009 Leaked

October 22, 2009 |12:46 | Black Friday  By : Team X

So far we only have seen a Black Friday Ad from Half Priced Books. Now the more interesting Office Max Black Friday appears on BFAds and other Black Friday ad sites. The leaked Office Max Black Friday ad is though either a rough early version or fake. There are mistakes in the ad and some unusual listings as BlackFriday.info points out. BFAds lists 47 Office Max Black Friday deals including computer components, cameras, and electronics and published a 4 page ad scan. The most interesting Office Max Black Friday deal I have found in the 4 page Office Max Black Friday ad scan: a $149.99 Acer Aspire One Netbook. Still shipping with XP, but the $150 netbook seems to be a reality this coming Black Friday.

Even if this Office Max Black Friday ad is not final, Black Friday 2009 is approaching fast (November 27th) and more Black Friday ads will find its ways to web earlier than retailer might like as it is every year. Shops sure try every year to increase the security around the Black Friday Ads and flyer production, but I also see a leaked Black Friday ad as a great way to promote the deals as shoppers are eager to find out what is Black Friday deals are coming up.

The History of Father's Day

October 15, 2009 |12:28 | Father's Day  By : Team X

Father's Day, contrary to popular misconception, was not established as a holiday in order to help greeting card manufacturers sell more cards. In fact when a "father's day" was first proposed there were no Father's Day cards!

Mrs. John B. Dodd, of Washington, first proposed the idea of a "father's day" in 1909. Mrs. Dodd wanted a special day to honor her father, William Smart. William Smart, a Civil War veteran, was widowed when his wife (Mrs. Dodd's mother) died in childbirth with their sixth child. Mr. Smart was left to raise the newborn and his other five children by himself on a rural farm in eastern Washington state. It was after Mrs. Dodd became an adult that she realized the strength and selflessness her father had shown in raising his children as a single parent.
